A Peoria County Grand Jury has indicted Thorn M. Smith, a local attorney aged 67, for attempting to vote twice in the April election. The indictment charges him with the felony of Voting More Than Once.

Smith initially voted using a mail-in ballot in March. However, on April 1, 2025, he went to his polling place and attempted to vote again. The election judge's computer system showed that Smith had already received a mail-in ballot. Despite this information, Smith signed a form declaring he had not previously voted and submitted a second provisional ballot.

The Election Commission's processes detected this second illegal ballot, ensuring it was not included in the final certified election results.
