Yesterday, Edward A. Traywick Jr., 19, was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm following a shooting incident in a Bradley University dorm room over the weekend. During his detention hearing, the court denied the State’s Petition to Detain. Traywick was released due to his lack of criminal history and current employment. He must comply with conditions including GPS electronic monitoring and is prohibited from possessing dangerous weapons.
The incident took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a dormitory in the 900 block of N. Duryea Place. An 18-year-old female victim had already been transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with an abdominal gunshot wound. Police stopped the vehicle en route and found Traywick, the victim, and others inside. During this stop, officers discovered that Traywick was carrying a backpack containing a loaded handgun.
On Monday, October 20, police interviewed the victim who stated that the shooting was accidental and identified Traywick as the shooter.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information about this incident to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
