On June 5, 2025, Deziaah Hunter, aged 19, was formally charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm following an incident on Peoria’s Riverfront. The victim, Kenadee Wallenfang, aged 18, was shot on Tuesday afternoon. During the detention hearing for Hunter, the court granted the state's petition to detain her until her trial.

The shooting occurred on June 3 at approximately 3:20 PM. Police responded to reports of a shooting and found Wallenfang lying next to an SUV with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. Officers also discovered a bullet hole in the driver's headrest along with powder burns.

A witness reported that Wallenfang was driving while Hunter sat behind her. When officers apprehended Hunter, she possessed a gun without a magazine; however, they found a loaded magazine in her pocket along with a spent shell casing. During questioning by police, Hunter claimed the gun discharged accidentally.

The investigation is still ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
