June 5, 2025, Peoria, IL – Drakar K. Munoz, aged 28, has been found guilty of armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm. The charges relate to an incident in the summer of 2023 at the Parkwood Commons Apartment Complex, where he robbed and shot a man. The victim survived but suffered two gunshot wounds to the stomach, and his cross-body bag was stolen. Surveillance video captured the entire event. The jury took only seven minutes to convict Munoz.

On August 15, 2023, around 3 a.m., police responded to the 1700 block of N. Great Oak in Peoria. They did not find any victims at the scene but recovered four shell casings. During their investigation, officers learned that a gunshot wound victim was on the way to the hospital.

During the two-day trial, jurors watched footage showing four men meeting in an apartment complex parking lot. These men were identified as Munoz, Jimmy Williams, the victim, and a friend of the victim. After exchanging greetings, Munoz drew a gun and aimed it at the victim while Williams seized the victim's cross-body bag. Munoz then shot the victim twice in the stomach as he attempted to flee. Both Munoz and Williams left the scene afterward.

The sentencing for this case is set for July 23.

In April 2024, Williams admitted guilt to armed robbery and received an eight-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his role in this incident.
