A Peoria County Grand Jury has indicted Deziaah Z. Hunter, 19, for the first-degree murder of Kenadee Wallenfang, 18, following an incident earlier this month along Peoria’s Riverfront. Initially charged with aggravated battery with a firearm while Wallenfang was on life support, the charges were elevated after her passing.

The shooting occurred on June 3 at approximately 3:20 PM. Police responded to reports and found Wallenfang with a gunshot wound to the back of her head next to an SUV. She later died in the hospital.

Investigators discovered evidence of a bullet hole in the driver’s headrest and powder burns. A witness indicated that Wallenfang was driving while Hunter sat behind her at the time of the shooting. Upon arrest, police found Hunter with a gun lacking its magazine but discovered a loaded magazine in her pocket and a spent shell casing nearby. Hunter claimed during questioning that the firearm discharged accidentally.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Peoria Police Department urges anyone with information to contact them at 309-673-4521.
