On June 24, 2025, Christopher P. Adams Jr., aged 20, was charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Teron M. Scott Jr., also 20 years old. The incident occurred last Friday in South Peoria. A detention hearing was held for Adams today, and the State’s Petition to Detain was granted, meaning he will remain in custody until his trial.

The events unfolded on Friday, June 20, at approximately 2:45 a.m., when police responded to a car crash on the 300 block of S. MacArthur Highway. Officers discovered Scott in the rear driver's seat of a vehicle that had collided with a tree at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Scott had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the scene. Another individual arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from gunshots.

Authorities utilized surveillance footage and images from Flock cameras to identify a suspect vehicle linked to Adams, who was subsequently apprehended. During questioning, Adams confessed to being the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. Surveillance footage revealed Adams driving recklessly as he attempted to catch up with Scott's car, maneuvering into oncoming traffic lanes before shots were fired.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
