Over the weekend, Sergio Delgado-Rodriguez, 26, was charged with armed robbery after an incident at a gas station in South Peoria. According to authorities, police responded on August 2 to a report of an armed robbery at 3203 SW Adams Street. An employee told officers that a man entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect left with $30 from the register.

Surveillance video captured images of the suspect and the vehicle used to leave the scene. Officers located the vehicle nearby soon after. The driver and owner, identified as Delgado-Rodriguez, matched descriptions from the footage. Police recovered $30 in cash and found a handgun under the driver’s seat.

Delgado-Rodriguez does not have a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card and faces an additional charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

At his detention hearing today, the court denied the State’s petition to detain him, citing his lack of prior criminal history. Delgado-Rodriguez was released with conditions including GPS electronic monitoring, no contact with anyone involved in the incident, and not possessing any firearms or dangerous weapons.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
