The City of Peoria will close a section of N. MacArthur Highway to all traffic between W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 4. The closure is part of the MacArthur Highway – MacArthur Bridge to Howett Street – Rehabilitation Project and is expected to continue through November.

Business access in the area will remain open during the closure period. Entry and exit for Valley Park Shopping Center should be made from W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue, while those visiting Valeska Hinton Early Childhood School should use N. Richard Pryor Place for parking lot access.

Drivers are advised to follow all marked detour routes and use caution when traveling near the closure area.

The city has outlined specific detour routes for motorists:

• Southbound through traffic on N. MacArthur Highway should utilize Main Street to S.W. Monroe Street to W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue to N. Richard Pryor Place to Jefferson Avenue.

• Northbound through traffic on N. MacArthur Highway should utilize Hurlburt Street to N. Richard Pryor Place to W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue to S.W. Monroe Street to Main Street.

More information about the project is available at the MacArthur Highway Rehabilitation Project page on the City of Peoria’s website.
