On the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Illinois House Republicans issued a statement reflecting on the events that changed the nation. The message recalled how nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day, including people from diverse backgrounds—business professionals, first responders, and everyday citizens.

The statement emphasized honoring those who died and recognizing the bravery of first responders. "We cannot forget the bravery of those who rushed into danger—firefighters, police officers, medical personnel—whose only thought was to save others. We remember the heroes of Flight 93, ordinary passengers who made the ultimate sacrifice to prevent further destruction. Their courage reminds us that even in the darkest moments, there is light."

Communities across Illinois joined others nationwide in holding vigils and prayer services after the attacks. Flags were flown at half-staff and volunteers donated blood as people sought ways to help.

The statement also reflected on lessons learned since 2001: "We learned that our freedoms are precious and fragile, that vigilance and unity are necessary to protect what we hold dear. We learned that our differences—whether they be political, social, or cultural—should never divide us. Instead, it is in our diversity that we find strength."

The Illinois House Republicans called for renewed commitment to unity and honoring those lost by striving for a stronger country: "Let’s honor the legacy of the fallen by renewing our commitment to unity, by living lives worthy of their sacrifice, and by continually striving toward a better, stronger America."

Ryan Spain has represented Illinois's 73rd House District since being elected in 2017 as a Republican. He succeeded David R. Leitch in this role (https://www.ilga.gov/house/Rep.asp?GA=102&MemberID=2890).

The message concluded with: "Today, we remember. Today, we stand together. Today, we pledge never to forget."
