Senate Bill 328, recently signed into law by Governor Pritzker, introduces significant changes to the civil legal standards in Illinois. Critics argue that the new legislation could discourage businesses from operating in the state.

"This legislation paves the way for more frivolous lawsuits and drives businesses away from our state. This cannot continue, and we must enact more pro-growth policies to provide the best opportunities for employers and jobseekers," said Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver.

Concerns have been raised that these changes may signal to companies that Illinois is not supportive of business growth. An opinion piece described Illinois as a "Legislative Inferno" due to such legislative actions (https://www.thecentersquare.com/opinion/article_8eaf2a32-3c60-11ee-b6d0-ef6cdb5b5b1d.html).

Weaver, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 93rd House District, succeeding Norine Hammond.
