Ellie Klokkenga, a senior at Hartsburg-Emden High School, has been named the August Athlete of the Month by Hopedale Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine in partnership with Hopedale Medical Complex. Klokkenga participates in both volleyball and softball and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She also serves as president of both the Student Council and FFA, and is active in her church community.
Athletic directors and coaches from partner school districts nominate students for this award each month. Nominees are evaluated not only on their athletic performance but also on academic achievement, leadership, character, and involvement in community service.
As the recipient for August, Klokkenga will be eligible for consideration as Athlete of the Year in May. The winner of that honor will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Hopedale Medical Foundation to support further education. The recognition program includes schools from Dee-Mack, Delavan, Hartsburg-Emden, and Tremont districts during the 2025/2026 sports seasons.
