Beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, lane and parking restrictions will be implemented on Hamilton Boulevard and Liberty Street in Peoria as resurfacing work begins. This effort is part of the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.

The city has advised drivers that significant delays are expected during this period and recommends using alternative routes. "While this work occurs, drivers can EXPECT LONG DELAYS. The use of ALTERNATIVE ROUTES IS STRONGLY ADVISED," according to city officials.

On Hamilton Boulevard, periodic lane closures between N.E. Jefferson Avenue and N.E. Adams Street will take place as all lanes are milled. Similar closures will occur on Liberty Street within the same stretch, with specific blocks experiencing changing closures throughout the morning as milling progresses.

Additionally, the far left two lanes of Adams Street will remain closed to all traffic from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass.

Parking restrictions will also be enforced starting Tuesday. Both east and west side parking lanes on Hamilton Boulevard and Liberty Street will be closed, along with the northside parking lane on Adams Street between N. William Kumpf Boulevard and Interstate 74 overpass. The city warns: "NO ON-STREET PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN THESE AREAS. ON-STREET PARKING RESTRICTIONS WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT WHILE THE METERS ARE BAGGED."

Vehicles parked in restricted areas risk being towed: "VEHICLES PARKED IN A RESTRICTED AREA WILL BE SUBJECT TO TOWING."

Temporary delays are anticipated for those entering or exiting the County of Peoria Parking Deck, but off-street parking remains available at both the Jefferson and Twin Towers decks.

Officials note that lane closures and parking restrictions may change daily during this project phase, which is scheduled through Friday, October 17. Delays up to 30 minutes may occur when accessing parking decks or businesses near active construction zones.

Traffic patterns are expected to revert once resurfacing concludes; however, one-way traffic on Adams Street will continue until next year.

The city urges caution for those traveling in affected areas: "Drivers should be mindful of workers in the area. Flaggers will be present at times to help guide traffic. An extreme amount of caution should be used in the area."
