Paving work on Adams Street and Hamilton Boulevard is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, according to an announcement from city officials. The project is expected to cause delays of up to 30 minutes for drivers in the area.

Motorists using the Jefferson and Niagara parking decks as well as the County of Peoria Parking Deck should anticipate traffic congestion while entering and exiting these facilities. The city strongly advises drivers to use alternative routes during the paving operations.

Periodic lane closures will take place on Hamilton Boulevard between N.E. Jefferson Avenue and N.E. Adams Street throughout the day. Lane closures in the 300 block of Hamilton Boulevard are expected to change as work progresses.

The far left two lanes of Adams Street will remain closed to all traffic from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass.

Parking restrictions are also being enforced in several areas. The parking lanes along both sides of Harrison Street, Liberty Street, and Hamilton Boulevard will be closed, as well as the northside parking lane on Adams Street from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass. No on-street parking will be allowed in these zones while meters are bagged, and vehicles parked in restricted areas will be subject to towing.

Off-street parking is available at the Jefferson and Twin Towers parking decks. Both lane closures and parking restrictions may change daily as work continues.

Traffic patterns are expected to return to their current configuration once resurfacing is complete; however, one-way traffic on Adams Street will remain until next year.

Daily updates regarding milling and paving locations are scheduled through Friday, Oct. 17. Drivers are urged to watch for workers and flaggers who may be present to direct traffic, and exercise caution in construction zones.
