Paving work will continue on several streets in Peoria beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, October 13. The ongoing resurfacing includes Adams Street and Hamilton Boulevard, with new paving scheduled to start on Harrison, Liberty, and Main streets, depending on weather conditions.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during the work period. Delays are also expected for those entering or exiting the Jefferson and Niagara parking decks, as well as the County of Peoria Parking Deck. "The use of alternative routes is strongly advised," according to city officials.
Periodic lane closures will take place throughout the day on Hamilton Boulevard, Harrison Street, Liberty Street, and Main Street between Jefferson Avenue and Adams Street while paving is underway. The far left two lanes of Adams Street from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass will remain closed to all traffic.
Parking lanes along both sides of Harrison Street, Liberty Street, and Hamilton Boulevard will remain closed. On Adams Street, the northside parking lane from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass will also stay closed. "No on-street parking will be allowed in these areas. On-street parking restrictions will remain in effect while the meters are bagged," the city stated. Vehicles parked in restricted areas risk being towed.
Off-street parking options are available at the Jefferson and Twin Towers parking decks. Lane closures and parking restrictions are subject to change daily as work progresses.
Traffic patterns will revert once resurfacing is complete; however, one-way traffic on Adams Street is set to continue until next year.
Daily updates about milling and paving locations will be provided through Friday, October 17. Drivers are reminded to watch for workers and follow guidance from flaggers present at times during construction.
