Congressman Darin LaHood, who represents Illinois’ 16th district in the U.S. Congress, has commented on the recent agreement between Israel and Hamas regarding phase one of a peace deal. The agreement includes the release of all hostages and is seen as an important move toward regional stability.
"The announcement that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace deal and the long-overdue release of all hostages marks a significant step towards stability in the region," said Rep. LaHood. "I am grateful for President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s leadership and tireless efforts to negotiate this deal, once again proving that peace through strength is the most effective approach to foreign policy. We must continue to work with our allies to ensure that this agreement is upheld as we move towards lasting peace in the Middle East."
LaHood has served in Congress since 2015, taking over from Aaron Schock. In 2022, he won re-election against Elizabeth Haderlein with more than 66% of the vote.
