State Representative Ryan Spain spoke at a press conference ahead of the final week of the fall veto session, criticizing Democratic lawmakers for advancing efforts to redraw Congressional districts in Illinois. Spain accused Democrats of trying to further limit voter influence by creating additional gerrymandered districts that would favor their party in future elections.

According to Spain, "Democrats are pursuing even more gerrymandered Congressional districts to elect more Democrats to Congress." He pointed out that this comes despite existing concerns about the fairness of current district maps. "This is despite Illinois already having Congressional districts rated F by the non-partisan Princeton Gerrymandering Project," Spain said.

Spain, a Republican, has represented Illinois' 73rd House District since 2017, following David R. Leitch's tenure in that seat.
