City of Peoria Mayor's Advisory Committee for the Disabled met May 9.

The meeting was held on May 9, 2017, at 4:10 p.m., at City Hall Building, 419 Fulton St, Room 404, Committee Member Laurie Atkinson, Chair presided.
Roll Call
Roll call showed the following committee members present: Laurie Atkinson, Kaye Berry, Melynda McKeever, Ashonta Huddleston, and Amr Elsamny – 5. Absent: Doris Hayes, Kendra Moses-Hagan and Mike Van Cleve - 3. Also present was Staff Liaison David Watkins, Equal Opportunity Manager.
Minutes
Committee Member Melynda McKeever motioned to approve the April meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Ashonta Huddleston.
Motion was approved by unanimous voice vote

Ad Hoc Committee
Committee Member Melynda McKeever recounted at last month’s meeting discussed forming an ad hoc committee, but had to defer action because idea was not on agenda.
As discussion continued, the members reviewed what Committee Members Mike Van Cleve and Doris Hayes thought the ad hoc committee would do to work on information packet and round table discussion.
Committee Member Ashonta Huddleston motioned to create ad hoc committee to work on information packet and round table discussion. The committee is to be led by Committee Members Mike Van Cleve and Doris Hayes. Motion was seconded by Committee Member Amr Elsamny.
Motion was approved by unanimous voice vote
Some discussion about the size of the ad hoc committee was held, but no decision was made. The members decided to wait to the next meeting to discuss committee size with Committee Members Van Cleve and Hayes
New Business
Premise Alert Program
Committee Member Amr Elsamny mentioned he has heard of program, but wanted to learn more.
Committee Member Melynda McKeever described the basics of the program. People would apply by completing the premise alert application and returning it to the Emergency Communications Center. The information is kept confidential. If the police, fire or other services have to be dispatched, they will know a resident has some kind of special needs.
As discussion continued, Staff Liaison David Watkins mentioned the MACCD did not create the program. The City of Peoria and County of Peoria developed the program because of a Public Act passed by the State of Illinois.
