Olsen works to fight sexual harassment in Springfield

Springfield illinois4(1000)

Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) said he has supported a range of efforts to combat sexual harassment in the General Assembly in a release posted recently on his website.

“House Joint Resolution 83 is a strongly worded resolution that urges everyone involved with state government to commit to working to change the culture in Springfield that breeds sexual harassment,” Olsen said in the Nov. 7 posting. “No woman or man should ever have to feel threatened or harassed in their workplace, and we need to take whatever steps are necessary so that people understand that they never have to accept unwanted advances in exchange for success on the job.”

Olsen has also voted in favor of several recent bills to fight a culture of sexual harassment, including legislation to require annual sexual harassment training, increasing the statute of limitations to allow for pending investigations to be completed and creating a Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment.

“I am pleased to see members of the General Assembly moving forward on a bipartisan basis to address this very serious problem,” Olsen said in his statement. “We must end this inappropriate culture and treat one another with full respect and as equals.”

HJR83 was adopted by both houses Nov. 7.
