By the slice or by the pie: Here are 15 mighty independent pizza places you must try in Peoria

Pizza

Few foods are as internationally adored as pizza, and in the United States, the love of this savory pie runs deep. According to National Association of Pizza Operators, the average American consumes 23 pounds of pizza each year.

Though many believe pizza was an Italian invention, the first pizza may have been invented by the Greeks, as they were known to eat large flatbreads with oil and seasonings. That being said, the pizza of ancient Italy shares a much closer resemblance to our modern pizzas, as they introduced sauces and cheeses to theirs.

Pizza has done more than survive since its early days, and it has indeed thrived. If you're in the mood for a delicious slice, here are 15 mighty independent pizza parlors in Peoria to try.
