City of Chillicothe Public Safety Committee met Dec. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The Public Safety Committee met on December 5, 2017, at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

Present: Alderman Sharp, Alderman Braun, Alderman Jenkins, Mayor White, Clerk Hurd, Acting Fire Chief Benisch, Police Chief Mettille, Office Manager Passage

Absent: Chairman Hughes

Alderman Hughes called the meeting to order.

PURCHASE FIRE HOSE

Acting Chief Benisch stated that Engine #1 would need 100 feet of 5” hose - $6,540.00 and 50 feet of 1.75” hose - $476.00. This replacement must be done to keep the vehicles in compliance. The consensus of the committee was to present to the council for approval at the December 18th council meeting.

UPDATE- FIRE DEPARTMENT

Acting Fire Chief Benisch presented the incident report. (Report Attached) He answered questions in regards to the number of No Response calls. He told the committee that calls come in through the dispatch system that are unintentional but are still assigned a call number therefore it is reported as a No Response.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

No report

OFFICER TRAINING

Chief Mettille presented information to the committee in regards to Standardized Field Sobriety Test instructor training that Sgt. Bridges will be attending January 22-25 in Peoria. He told the committee that there is no cost for the training. He reported that Officer Murphy and Detective Brown will be attending the State Mandated Sexual Assault Investigator Training and Train the Trainer in March. He told the committee that there is no cost to the training however meals and lodging will need to be paid out of the Police Protection Fund.

POLICE DEPT. UPDATE

Chief Mettille presented the status for Impound vehicles, and Ordinance Zones (attached)

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN Mayor White told the committee that he had reviewed the City’s Emergency Preparedness Plan and felt it needed updated. Discussion was held in regards to updating the City’s emergency response policy. Mayor White will have all City Supervisors collect information needed to update.

OLD BUSINESS TRAILER PARKS

Chief Mettille reported that he has been in contact with the new owner (Mark Melton) of the Davis Trailer Park and that progress is being made on the condition of the park

Alderman Sharp reported that the two individuals that approached him on the property were no longer interested.

AMENDMENT – ZONING FEES

Office Manager Passage gave an update. She reported that she is monitoring the fees and that they will be reviewed in the spring.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER - CONTRACT

Chief Mettille reported that the school district is on board to renew the contract for 2 years at their January meeting.

BACON BUILDING UPDATE

Mayor White reported that he will advise Economic Development Committee to send out Request for Proposals (the city engineer has drafted) rather than taking bids. He told the committee that this would give the council more options on how to proceed with the roof once the city takes ownership.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
