City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on June 20.
Those attending the UnityPoint Health Red, White and Boom celebration on July 4 in RiverFront Park should let the professionals handle the fireworks, and leave the sparklers at home. Sparklers and any type of fireworks will be prohibited in RiverFront Park on July 4. According to the East Peoria Fire Department, sparkler wires can become extremely hot, causing burns, and those stepping on discarded wires can become injured. Sparklers and fireworks found in the park will be confiscated. Grills, both charcoal and gas, and alcohol are also prohibited in the park.
