CITY OF EAST PEORIA: Wind turbine transport to cause early morning traffic delays

Morningtraffic

City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on June 20.

Wind turbine parts being transported through the city will cause early morning traffic delays, before the normal morning rush hour, in East Peoria’s downtown area this summer. Beginning June 25, at 1:30 a.m. Monday through Friday East Peoria Police will shut down North Main Street from Washington to Camp streets and West Washington Street from Columbia to Main Street to allow transport of wind turbine parts from the TP&W railyard through the city and to their eventual destination at the Walnut Ridge wind farm in Bureau County. The roads will reopen to traffic between 5 and 6 a.m. each day.

In addition, some wind turbine transport trucks will be moving between 9 a.m. and noon each day, causing momentary traffic stoppages at Main and Washington streets.

The temporary road closures will occur only during weekdays, and will continue through mid-September.

In all, components for the 109 wind turbines owned by Vestas-American Wind Technology will be transported on mostly over-sized trucks by ATS Inc. The City of East Peoria has negotiated a reimbursement agreement with Vestas regarding police department traffic control costs and repairs of potential damage to the streets.
