Elmwood Rural Fire Protection District responded to 32 calls in 2017 - 52.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elmwood Rural included 27 fires - 12 structure fires, three vehicle fires and 12 other fires.

In all, the department saw $4,500,000 in fire loss - or about $166,667 per fire.

The department also received five false calls, including three malicious calls and two other false calls.
