Canton City issued the following announcement on Aug. 15.
Notice is hereby given, that the Office of Diana Pavley-Rock, City Clerk and Local Election Official in and for the City of Canton at 2 North Main Street, Canton, Illinois, will have nominating papers available for the office of Alderman available for pick up starting Tuesday, August 28, 2018. The Clerk’s office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning Monday, November 19 through Monday, November 26, 2018 for the purpose of accepting nominating papers from candidates for the potential Primary Election to be held February 26, 2019 or the General Election on April 2, 2019
Five seats on the council will be open for election. Four positions are for 4-year terms, and the fifth seat is a 2-year unexpired term for Ward 3 Alderman Chris Jump's seat, which was vacated when Jump moved his residence to another ward. His seat is temporarily being filled by Quin Mayhew.
Four-year seats that are expiring are Ward One Ryan Mayhew, Ward Two Tad Putrich, Ward Three Justin Nelson, and Ward Four Angela Hale.
