City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.
East Peoria residents who recycle can download a calendar and route list to see when their items will be picked up now that the every-other-week recycling collection schedule is in effect. Only the recycling schedule has changed. Garbage will continue to be picked up every week.
Recyclers should now order their new 96-gallon blue lid recycling toter, which replaces the small red and blue bins and must be in use by July of 2019. Order the new recycling toter online. Public Works employees will deliver the recycling toters to residents. The recycling program is voluntary. The only mandatory part is purchasing the new toter. Those who have several garbage toters have the option of painting a toter lid blue, thus making it a recycling toter and eliminating the need to purchase one.
Glass is now accepted in the new recycling toters.
Once they have received their new 96-gallon recycling toter, residents can use the small recycling bins for storing their recycled material or keep them for personal use. They can also be dropped off at Public Works, 2232 E. Washington St., and the East Peoria Green Team will donate them to Illinois Central College for use on campus and in dorms. Dropped off bins must be empty and clean.
