City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met July 10.

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 1:11 p.m. by Commissioner Norton.
Present: Commissioner Samantha Norton Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn
Commissioner Greg Gossett
Absent: Commissioner Chad Mayall
Public Participation- none
A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to accept the Minutes of the June 12, 2018 regular meeting. All Ayes, motion carried.
A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to accept the Minutes of the June 26, 2018 special meeting. All Ayes, motion carried.
A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to accept the Budget. All Ayes, motion carried.
Training certificates: Certificates of training in the police department were presented, as well as a letter of reprimand.
Old Business –
Probationary Employees: Officer Johnson is doing well, and his quarterly report will be completed soon. Firefighter Jones has just begun working.
Bills: A Motion was made by Commission Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to pay the bill to Campion, Barrow & Associates in the amount of $425.00 for a psychological exam for a new firefighter. All Ayes, Motion carried.
A Motion was made by Commission Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to pay the bill to Terrence McCann & Associates in the amount of $150.00 for a polygraph exam for a new firefighter. All Ayes, Motion carried.
Testing Cycles: The Fire Initial testing is in process, with applications to be released starting
July 23. Commissioners confirmed that the Orientation and Written Exam will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 9:00 at the Fire Department, and that they will probably wait two weeks to do the interviews since they don’t want to hold them on Labor Day weekend.
The PD Sergeant promotional is in the beginning stages – the waiver has been signed, and the reading materials list is ready for the PD to ensure they have all the books. The officers will receive the list and have 90 days to study before the test.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:41 p.m.
