According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 10,671 students during the year. That equates to 80.4 percent of the 13,278 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for eight incidents with unspecified reasons, five incidents with violence without physical injury and two incidents with drugs.
Of the 5,545 in-school suspensions, 3,367 were given to boys and 2,178 were given to girls, including 1,750 elementary or middle schoolers and 3,795 high schoolers.
The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 5,062 incidents. There were 477 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 5,266 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
Of the 5,111 out-of-school suspensions, 3,340 were given to boys and 1,771 were given to girls, including 3,624 elementary or middle schoolers and 1,487 high schoolers.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 3,638 incidents. There were 1,310 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 1,864 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
