Astoria Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 20 times in a single school year

Astoria Community Unit School District 1 reported 20 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 20 students during the year. That equates to 5.4 percent of the 367 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes seven incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For six incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes six incidents. There were five incidents of unspecified reasons. For five incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
