Morton Community Unit School District 709 students suspended 43 times in a single school year

Morton Community Unit School District 709 reported 43 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 43 students during the year. That equates to 1.4 percent of the 3,060 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for drugs. The category includes one incidents. For one incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 23 incidents. There were eight incidents of drugs. For 14 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
