Lewistown Community Unit School District 97 students suspended 75 times in a single school year

Lewistown Community Unit School District 97 reported 75 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 75 students during the year. That equates to 11.2 percent of the 672 students enrolled.

Of the 58 in-school suspensions, including 25 elementary or middle schoolers and 33 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 52 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 56 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes nine incidents. There were five incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For eight incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
