East Peoria School District 86 students suspended 199 times in a single school year

East Peoria School District 86 reported 199 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 199 students during the year. That equates to 12.3 percent of the 1,623 students enrolled.

Of the 111 in-school suspensions, 100 were given to boys and 11 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 105 incidents. There were four incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 98 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 88 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 72 incidents. There were six incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 40 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
