City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Aug. 14.

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 12:57 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.
Present: Commissioner Chad Mayall Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn
Commissioner Greg Gossett
Absent: Commissioner Samantha Norton
Public Participation- none
A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the Minutes of the July 10, 2018 regular meeting. All Ayes, motion carried.
A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to accept the Budget. All Ayes, motion carried.
Training certificates: No certificates were presented.
Old Business –
Probationary Employees: No report as PS Director Fairburn had not arrived yet.
Bills: A Motion was made by Commission Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to pay the following bills:
To The Canton Daily Ledger in the amount of $157.50 for advertising for firefighter testing. To The Canton Daily Ledger in the amount of $315.00 for advertising for firefighter testing. To The Pekin Daily Times in the amount of $236.98 for advertising for firefighter testing.
To The Fulton Democrat in the amount of $125.34 for advertising for firefighter testing.
To Terrance McCann & Assoc. in the amount of $150.00 for polygraph testing for Chris Carrier. To IWIRC in the amount of $668.75 for physical exam for Chase Jones.
All Ayes, Motion carried.
Testing Cycles: The Fire Initial is in the application process. Carol will contact applicants as needed in regards to the checklist that was accidentally omitted at first from the application packet. Commissioners confirmed that they should remain firm on candidates providing both the diploma and transcripts.
Commissioner Gossett informed the committee that he is not going to be available for the two dates selected for the Fire Orientation/Written Test and the Oral Interviews. Since those dates have already been included in the packet information to the candidates, September 8 will remain for Orientation and Written, but they will consider September 22 instead for the Oral Interviews, depending on the number of candidates to interview and the distance they come from.
The PD Sergeant promotional is in the study stage. Commissioners will set an exam date at the September meeting.
New Business : In regards to hiring a new police officer, the commission discussed that all testing results have been received and reviewed for lateral police candidate Christopher Carrier. All results have been positive, so a Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Mayall to hire Christopher Carrier as a probationary police officer. All Ayes, Motion Carried. Commissioner Mayall then proceeded to call Mr. Carrier to make an offer of employment, which was accepted.
Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:13 p.m.
