PEKIN AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: New Exhibits Scheduled To Open In Icc Art Galleries September 19

Artexhibition

Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 17.

Two new exhibits open September 19 in the Illinois Central College art galleries, located on the East Peoria Campus.

Headspace, a printmaking exhibit by Dan Ossandon, opens in the Performing Arts Center Gallery. A talk by the artist is scheduled in the gallery from noon to 1 pm on the opening date of the exhibit.

In addition, almost always never, an exhibit of the art of Felicia Cannon, opens in Gallery 336B, located in the Academic Building.

Ossandon was born in Temuco, Chile, and immigrated to the United States in 1995. He studied graphic design at Parkland College in Champaign and Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Ossandon has worked in the industry for nine years. He does work in screen printing and illustration and often incorporates typography into visual images. Ossandon creates his work using painting and screen printing techniques. He said his inspiration comes from everyday objects and events where he takes what he sees, places his own spin on it and creates art from his point of view.

Cannon was raised in Clearwater, Fla. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in studio art from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. and a master of fine arts degree in printmaking from Illinois State University in Normal. She has received numerous awards, scholarships, and publications for her work. Cannon said she produces images that function as a vehicle to generate, discover and learn. She added that her art is a form of non-verbal sharing, an externalizing of experience and emotion and a way to map or define an issue more accurately. Cannon said the image can function more as poetry, with multiple layers of meaning and intent, encouraging awareness and raising questions rather than prescribing conclusive answers.

Hours of operation for Gallery 336B are Monday through Thursday, from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to noon. The Performing Arts Center Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm, and Friday from 9:30 am to noon. In addition, the Performing Arts Center Gallery also is accessible when the Performing Arts Center is open for public events. Operation of all galleries varies with ICC’s holidays and breaks.

The exhibits are presented by the ICC Art Program and the Arts at ICC. The Arts at ICC has a rich history of enhancing the arts community and expanding education beyond the classroom. Arts at ICC presents more than 500 exhibits, performances, lectures, rehearsals, meetings, master classes, clinics, seminars, receptions, orientations, forums, auditions and tournaments annually.

For more information or to confirm a gallery will be open at a particular time, visit ArtsAtICC.com or contact the ICC Arts and Behavioral Sciences Department at (309) 694-5113.
