City of Mason City Council met Sept. 27.
Here is the minutes provided by the Council:
Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe.
Council members physically present were Aldermen Gerald Mahin, Dan Mason, Scott Francis, Mike Kirby, John Dodson, and Jim Miller. Also present were City Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon Chief Anderson and Asst. Chief Donovan. Others attending were Officer Ahart, Karen Miller, Wendy Martin, and Sara Crabtree. Treasurer Mike Griffin was absent.
The Chairman declared quorum present.
The minutes of the August 13, 2018 regular and executive Council meeting were approved.
R18-79 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the August 12, 2018 regular and executive session Council minutes.
Roll Call:
Ayes: Alderman Mason, Mahin, Francis, Miller, and Dodson.
Nays: None
Present: Alderman Kirby
Chairman declared motion carried.
Karen Miller spoke briefly regarding an article highlighting the School Resource Officer agreement between the school and the City.
Sara Crabtree had concerns about a manhole not being on the current city map. Her permit is from 1965, and as the Superintendent explained to her, the city doesn’t have all manholes recorded on the map and he would have to dig and make sure there is actually one there since it is not visible on the top of the street.
Superintendent Dixon is getting figures together for the main replacement.
The Mayor received a letter from IDOT regarding Rt 10 improvements. This was tabled until the next meeting so the city can check on MFT dollars.
Chief Anderson was given a week’s vacation which should’ve been awarded to him upon hiring.
R18-80 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve one week’s vacation to Chief Anderson that was overlooked when hired in.

The 2012 squad car is having issues, Chief Anderson said the repairs could be quite costly. The Council suggested that it be towed to Ray Dennison where warranty work had been recently done on the car It would seem that some of the concerns should have been resolved when the warranty work was completed.
The Mayor asked that the 100 Block of North Tonica be blocked during Fall Festival for the Fireman’s water fight.
R18-71 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve closing the 100 block of N. Tonica on the afternoon of Sept 15th,2018 for the water fights for Fall Festival.

There being no further business, at 7:20 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to recess into executive session to discuss 5ILCS C,1,6 PROPERTY.

At 7:24 the regular meeting resumed, and being no further business, Alderman Kirby moved, seconded by alderman Mason to adjourn at 7:25 P.M.
