Former state school employee Behrends paid in $48K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $716K in retirement

Former state school employee Lori Behrends, who retired in September 2018, saved $47,896 toward a pension over 14 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Behrends would collect as much as $715,675, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Peoria Standard.

The projection assumes Behrends received $15,042 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Behrends will have already received $62,930 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
