State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) disagrees with Gov. J.B. Pritzker's proposed tax increase to balance the state's budget.

Brady said Pritzker faces many challengers because he represents a liberal-leaning Democratic party whose spending habits need to be placated.

"The foundation of the budget is poor," Brady said. "The fact that he is relying on a tax increase that voters have not even voted on yet or said yes to is a bad premise."

Brady said fiscal discipline is needed.

"We believe there is a way to increase education spending by $350 million—to give more resources to DFS to protect our children and meet our pension obligations and a little more than that, but you have to have some fiscal discipline," Brady said.
