Paul Bauer | Marshall County

When it comes to the state’s attorney race in Marshall County, it is a given that a Republican will fill the position.

The lack of a Democratic candidates essentially means that Marshall County Republicans have to decide between current officeholder Paul Bauer or challenger Don Knuckey, Jr. in the primary.

Bauer seeks to remain in office for a fifth term while Knuckey aims for the job his late father once had.

Voters have a chance to meet both men at a meet-and-greet event at 10 a.m. March 7 at the Chestnut Inn on Illinois Route 29 in Henry, according to the Journal Star.

The 57-year-old Bauer served under Don Knuckey, Sr. for 2 1/2 years before becoming the county’s lead prosecutor almost 15 years ago. Since 2004, Bauer has never faced a challenger until now.

Knuckey is a 38-year-old ex-county board member who has a full-time job at a Walmart distribution center in Spring Valley and practices law out of offices in East Peoria and Henry.
