Due to overtime costs, there was a 32% increase for auxiliary police community event coverage in 2019.

This increase is mainly due to auxiliary police retirements which results in the full-timers working more overtime, said Morton Police Chief Craig Hillard, according to the Journal Star.

Last year's increase was $19,963, up from $15,061 in 2018. An estimated 64% of that increase came from the Morton Pumpkin Festival which cost the town $12,751 for auxiliary police presence. That is an increase of about $3,000, Hillard said, according to the Journal Star.

A new soccer tournament held by the Morton Premier SoccerClub cost $1,500, the homecoming parade cost $974, and the Fourth of July VFW fireworks police costs were up $200 to $1,363. All of these auxiliary police costs are covered by revenue from the hotel tax.
