Illinois State Senate District 53 issued the following announcement on May 24.
State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) released the following statement regarding the Illinois General Assembly’s adjournment.
"In this unprecedented time, I believe the General Assembly has fallen far short of the public's expectations of how we respond to the issues facing our constituents. Governor Pritzker has issued more than 30 unilateral orders over the past ten weeks. Whether you agree or disagree with these orders, there is no dispute that the Legislature must fulfill its oversight role of these unilateral decisions. Our system of checks and balances requires it. However, instead of doing its job, the Legislature adjourned after passing an unbalanced, partisan budget that includes billions of dollars of borrowing and new spending, and no oversight of the Governor."
