Cost of college went up for all students at Spoon River College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at Spoon River College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $10,290 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $300 more than the $9,990 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 10.5 percent more than residents this year, or $11,370. Their price tag grew 2.7 percent from $11,070 in 2017-18.

About 95 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. And about 5 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 132 students received grants or scholarships totaling $786,012 and 47 students took out student loans totaling more than $205,600.

Including all undergraduates (1,436), 902 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4 million, and 287 students took out $1.4 million in federal student loans.
