Bradley University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 13
Freshmen Maria Perakis and Kathryn McNease paced Bradley Women's Golf on the opening day of the Payne Stewart Memorial with the Braves tied with former Missouri Valley Conference rival Wichita State for eighth in the 16-team field after Monday's opening two rounds.
After tying for ninth to help lead the Braves at the season-opening Redbird Invitational last week, Perakis was Bradley's top performer on the first day at the Payne Stewart Memorial. She fired matching four-over 75's Monday at the par-71 Twin Oaks Country Club to finish the day tied for 17th at eight-over 150 and is four strokes out of the top 10.
McNease had a 77 in the morning round, only to improve by two shots in the afternoon with a four-over 75 to match her low round of the year, anded finish the day one shot out of the top 20 at 10-over 152 (T22nd).
Senior Megan Welch chased a first round 77 with a five-over 76 and is on MeNease's heels in a tie for 24th at 11-over 153 in a tie for 24th. Junior Mara Flaherty had the low second-round score for the Braves with a three-over 74 and is just two back of McNease in a tie for 33rd overall at 154 after a first-round 80.
Senior Elyse Emerzian made her season debut with a pair of 83's and is tied for 73rd overall at 166.
Bradley was nine shots better in the second round, chasing a first-round 309 with a 300 to match Wichita State for eighth in the team standings at 609 after the opening two rounds. The Braves and Shockers sit just seven shots out of the top five in the standings with Austin Peay (5th – 602), Murray State (6th – 604) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (7th – 605) in front of the pair.
Oral Roberts has a nine-shot lead in the field at 14-over 582, followed by California Baptist (2nd – 591), Drake (3rd – 598) and tournament-host Missouri State (4th – 599).
The final round of the Payne Stewart Memorial will tee off Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
