City of Mason City Council met Sept. 13.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.
Council members physically present were Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Danny Mason, Julie Mize, and Jim Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin was also present. Clerk Michele Whitehead and Alderperson Kevin Snyder were absent.
The minutes of the August 23rd Council meeting and the accounts payable and Treasurer’s report were approved.
R21-81 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the regular session minutes of the August 23, 2021 meeting, the accounts payable and treasurer report.
Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason
Nays: None
Absent: Snyder
Chairman declared motion carried.
R21-82 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve the bid of $334,123.00 from Hoerr Construction for the sewer lining project (aka 2021 CIPP sewer rehab).
Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason
Nays: None
Absent: Snyder

R21-83 Alderman Francis moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the IEPA SRF loan application for Well #8. Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Alderperson Mize thanked the Public Works crew for helping to move the high school yearbook photos from the State Bank to City Hall, where they will now be displayed.
Discussion remains regarding the Police department building and what should be done regarding its condition. A Morton building is still in consideration, which would have to be put out for bid since it would be over $25,000.
The Police will be training in October regarding responding to a scene and maintaining the integrity of a crime scene.
Ordinance enforcement Frank McMahan is working with the City Attorney Denise Barr regarding various city properties that have received violations/fines.
