City of Mason City Council met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.

Council members physically present were Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Danny Mason, Kevin Snyder, and Jim Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin and Clerk Michele Whitehead were also present. Alderperson Julie Mize was absent.

The minutes of the September 27th Council meeting and the accounts payable and Treasurer’s report were approved.

Clerk Michele Whitehead informed the Council that she had submitted all required documentation on the City’s behalf and the city in turn received $288,000 in American Rescue Plan Money.

R21-87 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the regular session minutes of the September 27, 2021 meeting, the accounts payable and treasurer report.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

A request was received from the school regarding a small Homecoming parade to be held on Oct 21st. 2021. The route would be from the Christian Church down Main Street to Pine and the Pine down to the school. The Council gave permission for the parade.

R21-88 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Snyder to allow for a Homecoming parade on the city streets of Main and Pine.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-89 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve change order #8 for the CSO a reduction in retainage fee.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-90 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve pay request #19 for the CSO in the amount of $287,289.71 for contractor fees, engineering fees and interest due.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-91 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to accept the substantial completion certificate for Schwartz Construction for the CSO project.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-92 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Snyder to accept the substantial completion certificate from Prairie State Plumbing and Heating for the sewage treatment plant chlorination improvements.

Ayes: Alderpersons Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Mize

Chairman declared motion carried.

Chief Anderson updated the Council on department trainings, classes, and the department activity log of calls.

Chief Anderson is also working on developing a plan for a new police facility to present to the council in the near future.

Ordinance enforcement Frank McMahan informed the council on the status of a few problem properties and the court dates that are schedule for those properties.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned into executive session at 7:25 p.m. to discuss personnel and property.

The regular meeting resumed at 7:50 p.m.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
