City of Mason City Council met Nov.22.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.

Council members physically present were Gerald Mahin, Danny Mason, Julie Mize, Kevin Snyder, and Jim Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin and Clerk Michele Whitehead along with Superintendent Dixon, City Attorney Denise Barr, Chief Adam Anderson and Frank McMahan also attended the meeting. Alderman Francis was absent.

The minutes of the November 8, 2021 regular Council meeting were approved.

R21-101 Alderman Snyder moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the regular session minutes of the November 8th, 2021 meeting

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Mahin and Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Francis

Chairman declared motion carried.

Superintendent Dixon received a quote for a new metal shed to be located at the lagoon. The size is 30’x40’x14 at an approximate cost of $65-72,000. Alderman Mahin is still in the process of getting together pricing for a concrete block building of similar size.

Superintendent Dixon also informed the Council that there is a need for a new portable sewage pump at a cost of about $40.000 and a welder at a cost of approximately $4,000. The Council ask that the latter two items be put on the agenda for the next meeting along with discussion regarding a generator for City Hall.

It was requested that the school zone be extended down by the West Walnut area. The city ordinance will have to be re-written to reflect the change before this can be enforced. The Council agreed to the change, once the ordinance has been updated properly to reflect such change.

R21-109 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mize to extend the school zone in the West Walnut area once the ordinance has been updated to reflect such change.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Mahin, Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Francis

Chairman declared motion carried.

Chief Anderson informed the Council that it would cost approximately $1350.00 for new tires for the Explorer.

R21-110 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the purchase of new tires for the Explorer in the amount of $1350.00.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Mahin, Mason

Nays: None

Absent: Francis

Chairman declared motion carried.

City Attorney Denise Barr explained to the Council that once a lien search is completed and the city receives the signed deed the city can tear down the structure located at 501 E. High. She also discussed how to proceed with several other properties the city has concerns about.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:25 P.M.
