After helping the Bradley men's basketball team extend its winning streak to four games, sophomore forward Rienk Mast was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Mast had another dominant week for BU in a pair of victories against Valparaiso and Indiana State – averaging 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, while shooting 63.6 percent from the field. The sophomore opened the week by collecting 17 points (on 6-of-8 shooting) to go with six rebounds at Valparaiso. He then followed up with his seventh double-double of the season against Indiana State, scoring 20 points to go with 14 boards.
The strong week isn't anything new for Mast. The forward is averaging 18.4 points over the last eight games – scoring in double digits in all eight contests with four games of at least 20 points. He has also led BU with 18.5 points during the team's current four-game winning streak – shooting a blistering 70.5 percent during that stretch (31-of-44).
Overall, Mast is second on the team with 11.6 points during his sophomore campaign, while leading BU with 15.8 points during conference play. The forward also leads all players in the Valley with 8.4 rebounds per game and ranks 59th nationally.
The weekly accolade is the first Player of the Week honors for Mast during his career. He is also the second Brave to collect the award this season, joining Terry Roberts after the team's Sun Bowl title (Dec. 27).
Mast and the Braves put their four-game winning streak on the line Wednesday, squaring off at Northern Iowa. First tip in Cedar Falls is set for 7 p.m.
