Bradley Baseball drops weekend series to Michigan
After yet another postponed game, the Bradley Braves take game three of the series but it was not enough as Michigan takes the series in Ann Arbor.
Game One Recap
The Michigan Wolverines used a big sixth inning to take game one of the series on Friday night against the Bradley Braves. Both teams scored a run early, Michigan in the bottom of the first and Bradley in the top of the second, but it was a pair of singles that drove in two runs each for the Wolverines to build a 5-1 lead.
Bradley picked up an RBI single of their own, courtesy of Peter Hansen to score Ryan Vogel but the Wolverines tacked on two more runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth pushing the game to an 8-3 lead in favor of the home team. Bradley attempted to make a ninth-inning rally on an RBI single from Hansen and Carson Husmann reaching on an error but the Braves did not have enough to complete the comeback, losing the game 8-4.
Game Two Recap
Game two was originally scheduled to be played on Friday but shortly after game one got underway, the decision was made to push the second game of the series to early Sunday afternoon. The cold weather and snow flurries on Saturday did not provide a great opportunity to play baseball.
In the first game on Sunday, the Braves got on the board first after Peter Hansen grounded out to the third basemen as Ryan Vogel came across to score.
Michigan scored one run in each of the first three innings, with Joe Longo picking up an RBI single in the first inning and a solo homerun in the third inning.
Trailing 3-1, TJ Manteufel made it a one-run game after his solo shot to leftfield.
An RBI single and a sac-fly for the Wolverines in the bottom of the fifth added two more runs to build their lead to 5-3.
The two teams traded runs in the sixth inning and Bradley scored one run in the seventh on a Logan Delgado single but the Braves were held quiet in the last two innings. Michigan earned the 6-4 win and a series win.
Game Three Recap
On the brink of being swept for the first time this season, the second game of Sunday's doubleheader was scheduled for seven innings.
After going 3-5 in the early game, Ryan Vogel led off the third game with a solo home run, his first of the season. Bradley added one run in the third and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Michigan got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Braves added insurance in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from Connor O'Brien and an RBI single from Cal McGinnis.
The Braves held the Wolverines in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win and avoid the sweep.
Josh Flack shined for the Bradley Braves on the bump today and improved his record to 2-0. The Shawnee, Kansas native pitched five innings, allowing four hits, no runs and struck out six Wolverines.
What's Coming Up?
Bradley returns home and hopes to stave off mother nature on Tuesday as the Illinois Fighting Illini come to Peoria. The first pitch from Dozer Park is set for 6 p.m.
