State Representative Travis Weaver (R-Edwards) has announced a collaboration with the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments to organize Prescription Drug Take Back Events. These events, which will coincide with DEA National Drug Take Back Day, aim to provide local residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused prescription drugs.
Taking place on Saturday, October 28th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the events will be held at the Pekin Police Department located at 111 S. Capitol St., Pekin, and the Kewanee Police Department at 401 E. Third St., Kewanee. Rep. Weaver is encouraging residents to bring their unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs to these locations for proper disposal.
In an effort to combat the ongoing drug pandemic, Rep. Weaver emphasized the importance of preventing prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands. He stated, "For many folks, drug abuse includes stealing old prescription drugs from friends or family who no longer need them. I'm excited to join the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments in their effort to get old prescription drugs out of medicine cabinets."
Rep. Weaver commended the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments for their commitment to addressing this issue and expressed his honor in standing with them for this event. The collaboration between the police departments and Rep. Weaver highlights the collective effort to tackle the drug crisis and protect communities.
Residents are reminded to place the medications in sealed plastic bags before bringing them to the drop-off locations. Accepted items include tablets, capsules, and other solid forms of prescription drugs, as well as patches, vaping devices, and cartridges with lithium batteries removed. However, liquids, syringes, and needles are among the restricted items that will not be accepted.
Rep. Travis Weaver, who represents Illinois House District 93, has been actively working towards combating drug abuse and safeguarding the community's health. For further information about the Prescription Drug Take Back Events, residents are encouraged to contact Rep. Weaver's Pekin office at (309) 204-6514 or visit his website at repweaver.com.
By organizing these events and encouraging the safe disposal of prescription drugs, Rep. Weaver and the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments are taking a proactive approach to address the drug crisis and promote public safety.
