The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program will be offering free training in basic disaster response skills starting on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 7pm. The training, hosted by the Waukegan Fire Department, follows a consistent nationwide approach to volunteer training.
According to Captain Burleson, "The CERT training program is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to effectively respond to disasters and emergencies. It is a valuable opportunity for community members to make a difference in times of crisis."
The training consists of seven sessions, each lasting three hours. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
To attend the Waukegan CERT training, interested individuals must fill out an application form, which can be found in PDF format. The completed application should be emailed to Captain Burleson by Thursday, March 21st at 4pm. It is important to note that applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside in Illinois.
In order to ensure the safety of participants and the community, the Waukegan Police Department may conduct a background check on applicants. This is done in accordance with standard procedures and protocols.
The CERT training provides an opportunity for individuals to develop essential skills and knowledge that can be utilized during emergencies.
