The City of Peoria has issued a combined sewer overflow (CSO) alert following recent rainfall, leading to the discharge of sewage into the Illinois River. In a statement, the City of Peoria advised residents to exercise caution, stating, "When this warning is posted, please avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River in the area downstream from Detweiller Marina. You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow."

Furthermore, the City of Peoria highlighted ongoing efforts to address the issue, mentioning, "The City of Peoria is constructing projects to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Illinois River during wet weather, as required under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree."

The alert serves as a reminder for the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions during such environmental events.
