Deeb discussed how after the complaint process is completed, he sends a letter to the citizen that includes the findings and how to contact the committee if they would like to. Asst. City Manager Richardson pointed out that there is a lot of training that goes into employees handling these issues. She mentioned how members may want to focus on the thoroughness of the investigation rather than the outcome. Member Malcom asked about public record regarding complaint recommendations by the committee. ACM Richardson mentioned that these complaint reviews would need to be discussed in an executive session and that minutes would need to be taken in order to abide by the Open Meetings Act. Chief Echevarria invited members to tour the station to become familiar with police equipment such as body cameras and in-car cameras and how they operate. He discussed how this type of equipment helps protect both the public and officers. ACM Richardson, Councilman Allen, and Chief Echevarria mentioned several upcoming community events that members could be a part of – Great Neighbor Appreciation Week, Night Out Against Crime, and the Peoria Police Department’s Walk and Talks.
